Have a problem with the A180. On a motorway run power was reduced, max engine speed was 2000 rpm, unable to manually select gears, no warning lights. ( I suspect this a get-you -home mode) After stopping and re-starting all was well. However this mode returned more an more, then the management light came on over Xmas.

My A180 2.0D 57reg is making awful noise when on idle it's enough to touch the accelerator and it works fine and it's quiet, when I was testing it I didn't notice, maybe because the surrounding noise from the street or I didn't want to find any problems as I like the car. Yesterday I put it for service 'A' in Mercedes of Derby and they said hi guys! im getting a similar problem. just with the ESP though. just my observation! when i start the car at around 55 degrees to 60 and drive a few miles the ESP visit workshop pops up, sometimes ESP not Available. and then for the first time earlier today when i was approaching a stop light i pressed on the brakes lightly and then steering wheel and brake pedal vibrated three times. this is Mercedes A class W168 automatic transmission control unit failure.Gear selection indicator disappears from dash, not even F.7 or 8 fault codes including P189 . 173 88 493 443 158 356 476 153
